Since the start of TV broadcasting in April 1963, the German national TV channel ZDF is the most popular broadcaster despite a wide range of competitors. ZDF has an extensive program of information, education, culture, and entertainment. In many different genres such as documentaries, science pro-grams, cultural programs, movies, or German television entertainment shows – ZDF is the channel with the best offer according to the public opinion.

About 3,600 permanent employees work at one of the 16 locations throughout Germany – for example at the main broadcasting centers in Mainz and Berlin – or at one of the 19 foreign locations.

As a full service vendor axinom designed and implemented a new version of ZDFmediathek on Xbox 360, Windows 8, Windows Phone 8 and Windows Media Center.

The interactive control of the application is based on the sensor Kinect.  The sensor recognizes body movements and voice whereby the interactive gesture and voice control is enabled. The design of the Xbox user interface is similar to the web edition of ZDFmediathek but had been enhanced with modern UI design elements.
