A modular approach for managing, delivering, and deploying distributed digital aerospace services
While aviation is treading towards digital transformation, the industry is still ‘behind the curve’ in embracing full-scale digitization. The long-term benefits of these advances are widely acknowledged among sector leaders. Yet, so far, it has merely been limited to the adoption of ERP solutions, digital interfaces, and analytics.
With fragmented processes and services, true digitization, one that goes beyond gimmicks and cosmetic enhancement of passenger experience, is highly warranted right now. Although the current technologies do help airlines curtail some costs and augment passenger experience, they fail to fulfill the importunate demand of eliminating the technological barriers in integrations, long certification cycles, and management of distributed services. Let’s consider an example of smart seat systems. The next generation of airline seating can allow for occupancy status, integration with airline CRM, up-selling opportunities, cushion sensor status for predictive maintenance, as well as seat controls for passengers. Through IFS, all this can now be made a reality using a single digital backend.
The on-ground component - IFS Manage enables the seat manufacturer or supplier to ingest the seat management service quickly. The service is then managed by the airline admin, setting rules for service access, resource usage, data, and various integrations.
The service is further containerized and packaged by the IFS and delivered on-board using one or multiple connection pipes through Axinom CDS (Content Delivery System).
The IFS Deploy and Control deploys the service container to the on-board server as a user-modifiable software (UMS) and enforces the rules and data access boundaries set by regulators and admins.
The service is integrated with frontend portals and can be accessed on passenger and crew portals, as needed.
The data generated by the smart seat service is encrypted and off-loaded to on-ground servers using the available communication pipes. On-ground IFS Manage sends this data further to integrated BI or analytics tools.
